Finding Websites For Sale
By Luke Molly

So you want to start investing in websites, either for the purpose of buying them, doing then up and re-selling them or as a long term investment for their ongoing revenue. How do you go about finding websites for sale? There are two main approaches to finding websites for sale: contact a website owner directly or searching online website marketplaces. Here I explain the pros and cons of the two website buying methods:

Finding Websites to Buy Directly

The first thing to do is to fire up your trusty search engine of choice. Let's say you already have a website about or at least a personal interest in green energy. You might start by performing a search for subcategories within this niche. For example, solar hot water, or wind power generator.

You'd then review the search results looking for potential websites that you'd like to buy and add to your website portfolio. Looking through the site or looking up the domain Whois data should help you find the website owner so you can contact them and make an offer.

This proactive approach to website buying can be advantageous as it lets you stay one step ahead of your site-buying competition. Websites listed for sale in online marketplaces can generate dozens of interested buyers and therefore drive up the price.

You may not be the first person to contact the website owner with an offer to buy their website, but at the right price you've got a good chance of cutting a deal. Even still, this method can be time consuming and a little hit and miss, so you might prefer the next method of finding websites for sale.

Finding Websites For Sale in the Marketplace

Using a website trading marketplace to find websites for sale will help you quickly filter out the noise you have to deal with when trying to find sites with potential. Most website marketplaces ask that sellers pay to list their sites while also provide some basic revenue and traffic statistics. This will allow you to better asses the opportunity before you start doing your due diligence.

Don't get me wrong though, due diligence is just as important when shopping for websites for sale in the marketplace as it is when finding websites to buy directly.
